Visiting Walton on Thames

Walton on Thames lies in the county of Surrey within a 30 minute train journey to central London, England. It is what is termed commuter belt, the attractions of the London and the employment opportunities are very close but people preferred to travel to work and live in a more relaxed and less pressurised atmosphere.

Walton was rather sleepy and had an antiquated, possibly 1960s town centre. This has all changed with the opening of "the heart" of Walton on Thames, a new lively shopping centre populated with the latest fashion boutiques.

It has also resulted in the creation of approximately 500 new executive flats improving the housing opportunities in the area and bringing people back into the centre of the town which tended to be deserted later in the evenings.

Local attractions

As mentioned Walton on Thames is very close to central London. This means that within a 30 minute journey you can have access to the West End of London and all the latest shows, museums such as the Tate Gallery and British museum are also available for a day trip.

Nearer by, on the Thames, is Hampton Court a previous palace of Henry VIII with well preserved historic buildings, and external maize and extensive gardens adjoining the river.

For the more adventurous, and those of you with teenagers, there are several theme parks within 20 minutes drive is being Chessington world of adventures, Thorpe Park and Legoland.

Landscapes and Gardens

If you prefer a more relaxing time, Walton on Thames is 5 Minutes Drive from the countryside and Green Belt around London so many locals to take in endurable country walks punctuated with visits to enjoyable country public houses.

The river itself provides a recreational area with the opportunity to row or take a motorised boat journey down the river to Teddington or upstream to Weybridge. Once again the tow path will be liberally sprinkled with public houses.

The Royal horticultural Society has its headquarters at Wisley and the extensive gardens feature every type of flower and shrub you could imagine. The National trust has several properties in the area the most famous being Claremont Gardens with a large natural amphitheatre which plays host to summer evening concerts encompassing Classical and music through to jazz and rock.

Property prices

The only downside to moving to Walton on Thames is the price of property. Crime rates are very low, Heathrow and Gatwick airports are less than 30 minutes car ride away and as you have read there are many local attractions and the centre of London is nearby. All this creates great demand for family properties in the area and you will find you need a small personal fortune to move to the area.

As an alternative you can consider renting and there are some very nice properties in the area including St Georges Hill where several popstars have made their homes.
